SWU Verkehr places an order with ATRON for modernisation
Within the scope of a Europe-wide tender, ATRON electronic GmbH has been awarded the contract for the renewal of the ticketing system by SWU Verkehr GmbH (SWU). For the approximately 41 million passengers of the SWU every year, buying a ticket will be easier and more comfortable in the future.
In addition to enhancing passenger comfort, the modernization will also increase the efficiency of the billing systems. By the end of 2021, around 85 vehicles, 16 ticket agencies and a customer center will be equipped with electronic printers, including an entry control system and a new checkout system. Since SWU has already been cooperating with ATRON as a partner for many years, a gradual introduction with a temporary parallel operation of the previous and the new system with a complete sales statistics is possible. The new ticket printers and advance booking systems are state of the art and guarantee an intuitive and quick operability for both staff and passengers. The entire bus fleet will be equipped with new AFR 4.10 on-board computers with electronic printers and an entry control system. In the future, cashless payments with credit and debit cards will be possible at any time. An electronic ticket control according to VDV-KA is used in night traffic. Faster entry and exit times will increase the punctuality of the SWU lines in the city area of Ulm and Neu-Ulm.
The new ticketing system is controlled by the ATRON background system ATRIES. Using the most modern software, ATRIES organizes the different tariffs and manages the sales payments. The processed sales data are transferred to the SAP sales system of SWU via secure interfaces.

Michael Mahling, project manager at SWU, is also looking forward to the upcoming modernizations: "The introduction of new ticket printers and the offer of non-cash ticket purchases also in the vehicle is a next step for SWU to further improve the customer-oriented public transport in Ulm and Neu-Ulm and to make it more modern.

With 19 bus lines (including 6 night bus lines) and two tramway lines, SWU Verkehr GmbH operates the majority of the local public transport (ÖPNV) in the cities of Ulm and Neu-Ulm. The transportation services are provided by SWU Verkehr GmbH together with its 100 percent subsidiary SWU mobil GmbH. In 2019, around 41 million passengers were transported on a route network of 199.1 kilometers in length.
